Electronic Research Databases

Throughout your IT&E study, you will increasingly use electronic sources
for your research.  Below are some of the more useful electronic sources
you should learn to master.

ACM - Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
Citations and full-text articles in the area of computing and information technologies from journals, magazines, and conference proceedings published by the ACM, one of the world's largest computing societies.

Applied Science and Technology Index
International and English-language periodicals, covering engineering, mathematics, physics, and computer technology. Includes articles, interviews, meetings, conferences, exhibitions, new product reviews, announcements, and more.

Biotechnology and Bioengineering Abstracts
Covers ground-breaking research, applications, regulatory developments and new patents across all areas of biotechnology and bioengineering, including medical, pharmaceutical, agricultural, environmental and marine biology.

Cambridge Scientific Abstracts
A cluster of databases including: Agricultural Sciences; Aquatic Sciences, Biology, Computer Science, Market Research and more.

CiteSeer
The NECI Research Index (aka CiteSeer) is a scientific literature digital library that aims to improve the dissemination and feedback of scientific literature (chiefly computer science).

Computer Database
Use this database to find computer-related product introductions, news, and reviews in areas such as hardware, software, engineering, communications, and more.

Computer and Information Systems Abstracts
Covers major areas of computer technology (artificial intelligence, automation, CAD/CAM, imaging, logic, engineering physics, and more).

Dissertation Abstracts
The complete range of academic subjects appearing in dissertations accepted at accredited institutions.

Electronics & Communications Abstracts
Major areas of coverage include electric circuits, electric components, electromagnetic waves, electronic and thermionic materials, radar, radio, electronic communications.

Elsevier - ScienceDirect
Provides online access (searching and browsing) to over 600 journals published by Elsevier and its partners. Journals are available for most disciplines, including science, medicine, economics and the social sciences.

Engineering Index - Compendex
Provides abstracts and full bibliographic citations for worldwide engineering and technical literature and encompasses all engineering disciplines as well as related fields in science and management.

Faulkner Advisory for IT Studies
Reports on areas of interest to IT, communications managers, and specialists in the areas of computer and communications technologies.

IEEE/IEE Electronic Library
Provides full-text access to all journals, transactions and conference proceedings published by the electrical engineering organizations IEEE and IEE.

INSPEC
Scientific and technical journals and conference proceedings in physics,
electrical engineering and electronics, computing and control, and information
technology.

Internet & Personal Computing Abstracts
Provides comprehensive information on the latest personal computing products and developments in business, industry, education, libraries, and the home. Covers more than 100 traditional and cutting-edge publications.

Library Literature
Library and Information Science periodicals published internationally. Updated monthly.

Materials Science
A cluster of databases on materials science, including: aluminum industry, corrosion, engineered materials, metals and alloys, welding materials and ceramics.

MathSciNet
A searchable web database providing access to over 59 years of Mathematical Reviews and Current Mathematical Publications.

Mechanical Engineering Abstracts
Topics include mechanical engineering, nuclear technology, fluid flow, hydraulics, thermodynamics, aerospace engineering, materials handling and more.

NTIS
NTIS research reports, compiled by the US National Technical Information Service, cover such fields as engineering, biotechnology, the environment, health and safety, business, and the physical, biological and social sciences.

PapersFirst
Papers included in every congress, conference, exposition, workshop, symposium, and meeting received at The British Library.

Patents - U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
Full-text of U.S. patents issued by the USPTO since 1976. Displaying and printing of full images requires a TIFF browser plug-in.

Proceedings
Citations and the table of contents for every congress, symposium, conference, exposition, workshop and meeting received at the British Library.

Science Citation Index Expanded
A multidisciplinary database with searchable author abstracts for over 70% of the articles, covering the journal literature of the sciences. Over 5,000 major journals are indexed across 160+ disciplines.

Solid State and Superconductivity Abstracts
Global coverage on all aspects of theory, production, and application of solid state materials and devices.

Springer LINK
Provides online access (searching and browsing) to over 480 journals and two book series (Lecture Notes in Computer Science and Topics in Current Chemistry) published by Springer and its partners. LINK is divided into "Online Libraries" by subject.

Transport
Database of transportation research information. It is produced by the 25-nation Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development together with the United States' Transportation Research Board and the European Conference of Ministers of Transport.

TRIS (Transportation Research Information Services)
Provides bibliographic records, and some full-text, of transportation research published in books, journal articles, and technical reports.TRIS also includes links to the International Road Research Documentation database.

Water Resources Abstracts
Provides summaries of technical and scientific literature on water-related topics covering the characteristics, conservation, control, pollution, treatment, use and management of water resources.
