Your Professors' Advice
From Professor Alison O'Brien, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies:
Good writing in the field of business is characterized by organized, clear, short, informative sentences. The writing is based on fact, not opinion, and includes appropriate citations to credit the work of others. It goes without saying that the writing should be free of grammatical errors, and proofreading, not just spell checking, is critical for clarity. If I have to struggle through poor grammar or incorrect spelling, even when the spelling mistakes are so-called typos, I immediately lose confidence in the author. If I lose confidence in the author's ability to communicate in writing, I begin to question the credibility of what they are trying to communicate.
