DW MX 2004 Tutorial: Site Management
1. Download what you have on your Mason space.
- Create a folder on the Desktop.
- Name is Test
- Ftp everything in your public_html folder to the Test folder.
2. Follow Hour 3 in your DW book.
- Defining a web site.
- Using the site definition wizard.
- When you get to p.65 (Fig. 3.4 p.66), select the Desktop and the Test folder.
(This incorporates
the pre-existing folder/site into DW)
- Using the files panel.
- Using the expanded files panel.
- Creating new files in the files panel.
- Editing a site definition.
- Considering site organization.
3. Go to Hour 21 (p.387-91).
- Creating a site map.
- check out the site map
- check your site for broken links
- play with the layout of the site map (p.389)
- once it looks good, save the site map as an image (p.389)
(This is a good way to create an electronic site map for your final proposal.)
- Managing your links.
- check your site again for broken links
4. Explore the DW interface.
- Select a file from the Files panel (one of your pre-existing pages).
- Use Hours 2,4,5,&6 to change elements of the design.
- Don't worry about messing anything up; this is a test folder.
- If you do happen to create something you like, you can save it and upload it with the SSH ftp.
(Remember, change the file name if you don't want to overwrite the old page.)
