As seems to be the case for all countries with large numbers of technologically sophisticated emigres, there is plenty of material on Chinese politics on the Internet. However, keep two caveats in mind. First, the material on China tends to be found on websites initially set up by emigres to facilitate communication among themselves and people back in China. In other words, they tend to mix political and other information in an often chaotic manner. Second, because the Chinese government itself has been hesitant to allow much use of the Internet for any purposes--let alone the exchange of political ideas, including those coming from the overseas Chinese population--there is very little material to be found on China from China.
The Australian National University has one of the world's best websites on Asian studies in general and China in particular.
Dartmouth College has a smaller page along those same lines, but might be more useful as a result for undergraduates.
The Asian American Network was the original website set up by overseas Chinese students during the Democracy Movement in 1989.
China Page is another general website on Chinese issues that has more than the Asian American Network but is not as effectively focused on political issues
Chinascape is another of those all-purpose websites on Chinese issues.
CNDUB-L is a listserv that sends out Chinese news. To subscribe, send the standard message to listserv@ubvm.cc.buffalo.edu
