Comparative Politics

The Third World

Even though Internet use is nowhere near as widespread in the Third World as it is in Europe or North America, there is no shortage of material on politics in the third world. There are not, however, many general portals or gateways such as those we find on individual countries, though there are plenty for Africa, Asia, or Latin America. The best general sources are the Virtual Library's sites on:

Development

Sustainability

Microcredit

In addition, consult the Third World Society and the excellent collection on practical projects maintained by Richard Estes

InterAction is a consortium of NGOs working on development and related projects. Its site is the single best entry point to these groups and their work.

The Third World Network does the same from a more southern persepctive

The Grameen Bank is the pioneering microcredit organization

The Fourth World Development Project focuses on ethnic conflict and indigenous peoples

Many NGOs and IOs have made their data bases available on line.

World Bank including its World Development Report

United Nations Development Program including the Human Development Report
