Steps: 4 Gather Information > 4.2-School Culture > 4.2.2-Programs for English Language Learners

4.2.3 Gather information about instructional programs for English language learners

If you think instructional programs for English language learners might be contributing to your puzzling situation, you might examine the curriculum and other features of the programs and the opportunities they offer for ELLs to learn the "regular" curriculum. You might interview teachers about their experiences of the relationships between the curriculum of the special programs for English language learners and the regular curriculum. You also might observe or interview English language learners about their experiences in moving between the two curricula.

To explore the social dimension you could observe or interview English language learners to see how well they are integrated socially with other students. Who are their friends? Who do they socialize with during the lunch period and after school? You might also interview native English speakers to determine their views of English language learners.

If you haven't read the CIP pages for Step 4 or Step 4.2, please do so because they provide information about gathering information for your CIP project.
