4.4.2 Gather information about imbalances in power or economic opportunities, and peer group responses to those imbalances.

Gathering information on this topic would require having two foci. One focus would be on understanding a group's position in the larger society with regard to society's ranking of power and privilege. Census data, housing and employment patterns, and variation in available resources for local schools are relevant kinds of information.

The other focus would be on students' responses to these larger patterns. Student interviews could provide useful information if the interviewer can establish a trusting relationship with the interviewees. Focus groups could be a useful way to "break the ice." Observing students in classes can also provide useful information.
