There will be three exams during the semester. They may be a combination of multiple choice, short answer and/or essay. You will need to bring a scantron (skinny green one) and a pencil.
Critiques & Assessments
worth 150 points
In this course, we will spend our time discussing various aspects of the media, how they affect people's lives, historical aspects (to gain a better perspective of our current use), and controversial uses of the media.
For the critiques, use the articles from the class website (see schedule) and BEFORE class, type a three (3) sheet paper that explains your position, thoughts, critique, interest, dislike, disgust, etc of the subject matter. Each of the three critiques in worth a maximum of 25 points.
I will not accept hand-written papers for grading. Do the work before you come to class if you want the grade. You will turn in a critique copy to me IN CLASS on the DUE DATE. Late work bores me and earns you no points. Type it, STAPLE IT, bring it, turn it in and you're a happy camper (me too).
The assessments are also worth a maximum of 25 points. The assessments will be done during class time. If you are not in class, you will not be able to complete the assessments and will thus earn a zero. Make sure you read the information I've posted before class, as you will be quizzed somehow on this material.
All these concepts will appear in some way on your exams.

Class Discussions
worth 50 pts
During the semester we will discuss many things. There may be times when you break into groups to discuss certain aspects of chapter materials. In order to earn discussion points, you must be present in class AND you must actually participate. If you are absent on a day we break into groups or discuss things in class, you will not be able to earn those points.
