Health Communication Campaigns
Fall 2011
This course explores the role of communication campaigns to promote health and reduce health risks. We will examine the ways health communication campaigns are designed, implemented, and evaluated, describing the critical role of communication research throughout the campaign process. The course cuts across multiple levels of communication, different communication channels, and the use of diverse communication media and technologies. In addition to discussing the development, implementation, and evaluation of health communication interventions, we will also work collaboratively on several ongoing health communication intervention and evaluation projects. Some of the current projects I am working on include:
- Meeting the cancer information needs of Korean-Americans
- Fairfax County Health Literacy Initiative projects
- Community Immunity project (and related survey)
- NSF think-tank on media science, engineering, & technology
- Consensus conference on energy balance and youth obesity
