This course covers the holistic meanings of peace (beyond positive and negative peace), feminist conceptions of security, nonviolence, alternative security mechanisms (e.g., civilian-based defense), various methods of peaceful settlement (inquiry, good offices as well as international mediation), development strategies for peace, environmental security and politics, and global governance. The course will also explore the themes of nonviolence, peace activism, and global environmental movements. In addition, the course can be linked to the concepts of peacekeeping, peacebuilding, and global contexts of conflict.
