Summary of Need: Performance Database Associates has designed a Microsoft Access Database for assessing employee performance.  This database is used by each individual employee to report yearly activity.  The goal is to re-implement the  system so that employees may fill in their information via a Web interface.

Motivation or Reason for Need: Employees wish to access their information any-time any-where and input new activities daily.  The old system is rather cumbersome and a new system is desired.  There are issues of security and privacy to be dealt with, and the goal is to migrate the system to an Oracle Database System with secure access via the Internet by means of a Web browser.

Nature of Business:  Performance Database Associates wants to migrate its internal system to a Web-based Oracle system to ensure 24/7 access via the web with high levels of security to protect the information stored.  Also, management reports will be produced by the system for corporate decision-making.    

Performance Database Associates wishes to take the architecture, design and code and market it to other companies.  Thus the system should be general, flexible, tailorable, and secure.

Present System: The system is presently implemented using MS Access running on PCs.  

Statement of Customer-Perceived Requirements: The management of Performance Database Associates wants to migrate its existing system which is based on MS Access with one copy for each employee, to a multi-user web-based information system.  Each employee will login and be authenticated.  Employee activities will be updated on a 24/7 basis, and the filled-out form data will be stored in an Oracle database.  

Users will be able to print out a summary of their activities at any time, and management will be able to request a summary of each employees activities.  The management reports will have several options in which to present the information for decision-making.
