| The GMU Library System online: http://library.gmu.edu
(the entry point to the catalog, databases, references, help with
research,
Web guides and tools) can be searched via the Internet.
[The GMU Library Catalog and databases
can be accessed from the Internet (generally using an ID or
password), but the sources
accessed on these databases are not Internet sources.]
Some library databases have full texts that can be
printed and downloaded.
Libraries evaluate sources before they include them in their
collection.
Anyone can publish on the Internet, without evaluation. Here are
some guidelines to evaluate the credibility of text
sources and Internet
sources.
Library Databases
The GMU Library subscribes to many databases.
Below, see a short list of some of the databases you may find
useful.
[The numerous library databases to which GMU subscribes have their own
variations of search procedures, including boolean
operators, which can help you effectively narrow
your
searches.]
You can click on the specific category for your subject
or type in the
name of a specific database. The categories are divided into areas such
as: arts and humanities, science, current events, business, government,
math, economics, interdisciplinary, public affairs, law, education,
psychology,
technology, health, social sciences, references.
To access the GMU Library databases
from off
campus, see: access
restricted database information off campus. When a user click on a
db from off campus, a dialog window will open and ask them to log in
using their GMU e-mail user name and password.
