NCC General Education E-portfolio Requirements

Spring 2004

New Century College is committed to competency-based education. At the conclusion of the first year curriculum you are asked to reflect on your learning and to demonstrate and assess your achievement, both overall and in the various competency areas.  This is accomplished through an electronic portfolio that should be carefully organized, well-written, and professional in appearance. While the focus is your academic work, you may also include reflection on relevant non-academic activities (for example, campus activities and jobs).

Over the course of your academic and professional careers it is likely that you will create portfolios and e-portfolios both to demonstrate your learning and growth and to showcase academic and career achievements.  Nationwide, colleges and universities are incorporating portfolios into their curricula to help students evaluate and highlight their accomplishments.  As an Integrative Studies student, you will create a graduation portfolio at the end of your degree program. Your first-year e-portfolio will be archived in NCC until you begin preparing the graduation portfolio, although we strongly encourage you to keep your own electronic copy for your records.

Your e-portfolio should be submitted on a Zip disk or CD, depending on the technology most convenient for you.  You are responsible for making sure that your e-portfolio works and can be read on a computer other than your own.
