Netscape
Composer: Some Basic Rules
When you save your document, always save as an HTML document.
It will have the extension .html or .htm
Always use the same
extension within a single web site, whether indidivual or
collaborative. Use either .html or
.htm - but not both. Your index file
must always end in .html
Never use capital letters,
spaces, slashes, hyphens or periods in the name of your document
(except for the period before the extension htm or html).
This makes life much easier when you are linking documents together
and if you decide to post them to a web page.
Remember that if you use the Edit
Page command in Netscape Composer to edit your index.html
page, Netscape will try to rename your page with your log-in name.
Always use the Save As command immediately to rename the
page index.html
Write down the names of your files as
you create them. As you will be linking from one document to another,
you will always need to know the name of the document to which you are
linking. It is very easy to forget the names of documents you
create.
Always save all the files you are
linking together to the same place (a floppy disc, the same folder in
My Documents, directly to the C drive, etc.). Then you can preview
your links easily and should encounter no linking problems when you
upload your files.

new files in Netscape Composer or how to edit files go to:-

Secure Shell: Some Basic Rules
Always make sure that your screen is set for mason.gmu.edu
Log-in with your mason e-mail ID and
your Mason password (not the password you use for your web-based GMU
e-mail). If you have forgotten your Mason password, request a new one
here:
https://mason.gmu.edu/ISO/SysEng/Mason/account.html
Remember that the files destined for
your web page must sit inside your public_html
directory. Make sure that you drag your files directly into your
public_html directory on the Remote (right-hand) side of the screen.
When you have finished transferring
your files, double-click on the public_html directory to make sure
that all your files have reached their destination successfully
(Those of you who use directories
will, of course, need to open your public_html directory and drag your
files to the approriate directory within your
public_htnl directory).
Finally, if you keep Secure Shell
open while you edit your files, always remember to refresh
the local (left-hand) window before you transfer any files. this
allows you to transfer the newest version of each file.

Shell, go to:-
