It is a part of the Applied Research Laboratory. ARL's vision for education and training research and application reflects the fundamental objectives to enhance the workforce's professionalism and productivity. It measures professionalism and productivity in terms of job and learning performance while acknowledging that traditional educational and training opportunities no longer effectively support the need to train a diverse, evolving, and geographically separated workforce.

Center for Innovative Learning Technologies (CILT)

Project that researches: on-line collaboration; inexpensive portable computing and wireless communications; the object software revolution; visualization and modeling; better user interfaces; media-rich Web interactivity; and increased computing power. Center for Instructional Design and Delivery (CIDD)

Research and resources for integrating technology into higher education. The center is at the University of South Dakota. The focus in on helping their faculty and staff to utilize Instructional Technology for research, instruction, and service. It provides a good example of how a university service such as this can be set up - it is very organized and well-designed.

The DEVRL Project

The "Distributed Extensible Virtual Reality Laboratory". This project will allow people in different parts of the United Kingdom to be able to work together in the same virtual space to accomplish joint tasks (classroom, meetings, etc.), and other collaborative adventures in online learning environments. The uniqueness of this project is the concept of working together in shared virtual space.
