Course Goals
ISTC 541
At the conclusion of this course, you should be able to:
-
Identify the key components of a computer system and describe their functions.

Demonstrate an understanding of computer terminology and be able to utilize
it in an educational context.
-
Identify the different categories of computer systems and describe their
advantages and limitations in an educational context.
-
Identify the different categories of software applications and describe
their functions and educational uses.
-
Evaluate software applications based on given criteria.
-
Locate and report on recent journal articles related to computers in instruction
and education.
-
Perform the following computer tasks:
-
word processing;
-
creating spreadsheets;
-
creating databases;
-
accessing and browsing the Internet and the WWW for information;
-
using electronic mail (this will mainly be the student's responsibility);
-
creating presentations using PowerPoint;
-
designing and importing computer graphics and digital images into electronic
documents;
-
authoring courseware and/or developing a web-page.
