Integration of Information from Lectures and Reading

"Integration," Prof. Hart-Nibbrig's term, refers to the way you incorporate in your essay information from lecture notes, class discussions, assigned readings along with your own ideas and reactions. When you express reactions to what you have been learning or discussing in class, you should always include information about how your ideas relate to the class material. This shows the professor that you understand what has been presented in class and that your written reaction reflects thoughtful analysis of class material. As Prof. Hart-Nibbrig suggests, any essay should demonstrate to your professor an understanding of what has been discussed and presented in your class materials. Examining your writing for integration, especially during the revision process, is one of the keys to writing good essays.
