iMovie Instructions

The following is a tutorial on how to do basic video capture and editing using Apple Computer's video editing program, iMovie. For the purposes of this tutorial, we will assume you are working with iMovie 2 and Mac OS X. If you are working in Mac OS 9.x, don't worry. The features and instructions are the same. The biggest diffrence is where the files are saved to. Where there is a diffrence, it will be noted in the instructions.

The tutorial is broken into 5 sections for ease of use. The first section will cover the iMovie Interface and familerize you with the terms and functionality of the features in iMovie. The second section will cover how to Import video into iMovie. In the third section, Editing, we will learn how to use iMovie to make video stills and how to edit the captured video. In section four, Export, we will learn how to export your edited clips for use in websites, multimedia presentations, and where your stills were saved to. Section five contains other information like keyboard shortcuts to make working in iMovie faster.

 

On the left side and bottom of each page there is a collection of links. These links are your navagation for this website. Clicking Homewill bring you back to this page. Clicking on Interface, will bring you to the interface instructions. By clicking on Import, you will recieve the import instructions. Editing, will give you the editing instructions, Export, will give the export instructions, and Other Information will take you to that page.

  Before we get started, lets launch iMovie. In the upper left hand corner of your screen there is a multi-colored apple icon.

  Click this and the apple menu appears. On this menu there should be an icon that says iMovie next to it.

  Click that icon and iMovie will launch.

  Then, in iMovie, under the file menu, click on new project. this will start a new blank project for you to work with.
